Alexander Sladkovsky (Conductor)

Alexander Sladkovsky is Principal Conductor of the St. Petersburg Capella Symphony Orchestra, and Associate Conductor of the Russian National Orchestra. Previously he held the position of principal conductor in the State Opera and Ballet Theater of the St. Petersburg Conservatory.

Sladkovsky has appeared as guest conductor with most of Russias major orchestras, including the St. Petersburg Philharmonic, the State Symphony of Russia, the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra and the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra. He is regularly found on the podium for the Musical Olympus and Musical Spring festivals in St. Petersburg, Moscows Arts Square International Winter Festival, and the Young Euro Classics Festival in Berlin. He has also guest conducted in Italy, Germany and the former Yugoslavia.

Among the select group of Russian maestros invited to participate in St. Petersburgs 300th Anniversary in 2003, Sladkovsky conducted an official concert before an audience that included 46 heads of state, for which he was awarded a medal by President Putin. He was a 2003 nominee for Russias Golden Soffit Award as the Best Conductor of the Year and, in 1999, was the winner of the Third International Prokofiev Competition.

Graduating first from the Moscow Conservatory, Sladkovsky completed a second degree at the St. Petersburg Conservatory, where he studied under Vladislav Tchernushenko. He is deeply committed to working with young musicians and has served as Principal Conductor of the Youth Philharmonic of Russia since 2002.
