Alexander Rudin (Cello soloist)

Alexander Rudin is one of the brightest, most original and charismatic performers of his generation. A cellist with a world-renowned name, a conductor, pianist, teacher, researcher of early music scores, and author of his own orchestral arrangements of works of chamber music: he realizes himself with equal success in all of these creative roles. A. Rudin has been decorated as a People’s Artist of Russia, and as Laureate of the State Prize, and the Prize of the Mayor of Moscow, is a professor of the Moscow Conservatory, and President of the charity fund “The Musical Assembly”.

A. Rudin was born in Moscow in 1960. He graduated from the Gnessin State Musical and Pedagogical Institute in cello and piano, and then completed his education at the Moscow Conservatory (in conducting under Dmitry Kitayenko). Professionals came to recognize him as a performer after victories at prestigious international competitions, including the P. I. Tchaikovsky competition in Moscow (two decades later, in 2002, A. Rudin headed up the jury of this competition himself).
He is active touring around the world both as a soloist and as a conductor, performing with leading European orchestras. He is a constant participant in the large international musical festivals which take place in France, the Netherlands, Italy, Germany, Turkey, Macedonia, et al.

Since 1998, the creative activity of Alexander Rudin has been connected without interruption with the Academic Chamber Orchestra "Musica Viva" - one of the best chamber ensembles in Russia, which has received the recognition not only of the public, but also of harsh critics and fellow musicians. In the opinion of the Peoples’ Artist of the USSR, pianist Nikolai Petrov:

Today I have no doubt that great prospects have opened up for this ensemble: an extensive repertoire geography, dedication to their work and industriousness convince one that "Musica Viva" will bring joy to us with its performances for many years to come. I value the artistic director of the orchestra Alexander Rudin extremely highly; he is an excellent person, a superb cellist, and a brilliant musician. The professional qualities of the artistic leader are also fully present in the orchestra which he heads.
