Pavel Kudinov (Bass-baritone)

Pavel Kudinov was born in Dimitrovgrad and gratuated from Sobinov Conservatory in Russian Saratov. Already during his studies he was on stage as Bartolo (Il barbiere di Siviglia), as king (Aida) and as king René (Tchaikovsky’s Iolanta). His career path as a soloist led him on to the opera in Samara as well as Helikon opera in Moscow, where he sang the parts of Gremin (Eugen Onegin), Ramfis/Der König (Aida), Dolokhov (Krieg und Frieden), Graf von Monterone (Rigoletto), Schigolch (Lulu), Kotchubey (Mazeppa), Sobakin (Die Zarenbraut) as well as the title role in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale.

Pavel Kudinov has received numerous awards at international competitions:
Competizione dell’opera in Dresden, Hans Gabor Belvedere in Vienna (2001), International Singing Competition Ferruccio Tagliavini (2004), Francisco Viñas in Barcelona (2005), and Valsesia Musica Concorso Internazionale
(2005).

He celebrated his European debut as Ruslan in Glinka’s Ruslan and Ljudmila at the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe.

This was followed by engagements as Sarastro (The Magic Flute), Selim (Il turco in Italia), Colline (La Bohème) at the Volksoper in Vienna, King Henry (Lohengrin) at the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, where he also sang the gala concert directed by James Conlon and together with Nicolai Ghiaurov and Mirella Freni, Alidoro (La Cenerentola), Escamillo (Carmen) at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf, Ibn Khakia (Iolanta) at Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lissabon, Altoum (Busoni’s Turandot), Banco (Macbeth) at the Sferisterio Opera Festival, Vodník (Rusalka), Sarastro (The Magic Flute) at the Teatro Regio in Turino, a part that he had also embodied at the Bolshoi theatre in Moscow, Oroveso (Norma), Walter (Luisa Miller), Publio (La clemenza di Tito) in Leipzig, the worm (Luisa Miller) at Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Pimen (Boris Godunow) at the Stadttheater Klagenfurt as well as Escamillo (Carmen) at the Bolshoi theatre.

Pavel Kudinov regularly works with Theater an der Wien, Teatro Piazenca, Teatro Real in Madrid, Theater Basel, Stadttheater Bozen, Opera Leipzig, Teatro Modena, and many more. He has come to be an internationally acclaimed concert singer: he performed for instance Shostakovitch’s 13th and 14th symphony, Schnittke’s Faust-Cantata, Liszt’s Graner Mass, and Verdi’s Messa da Requiem in Helsinki and Zurich, among others.

Pavel Kudinov regularly works with conductorsm such as Christophe Rousset, Paolo Carignani, Christopher Moulds, Marc Minkowski, Pedro Halffter, and manymore.

During the season 2011/12 he will give performances among others as Aquarius in Bâle, as Sarastro in Leipzig and the Boshoi Theatre in Moscow, as Polonius and Luther/Crespel at the Theater an der Wien, as Escamillo at the Festival St. Margarethen, and as Bertrand in Madrid.
