Bogdan Volkov (Tenor)

Biography

Born in 1989 in Torez, Donetsk region (Ukraine).

Bogdan Volkov studied under Nikolai Gorbatov in the Glier Kiev State College of Music and then under Associate Professor Tamara Kowal at the Faculty of Musical Art at the Glier Kiev Institute of Music which he graduated with honors in 2012. 

In 2013 he completed his vocal studies graduating with honors from the Tchaikovsky Kiev National Academy of Music where his voice teacher was Associate Professor Alexander Dyachenko. At the Opera Studio of the Academy he performed Alfredo in La Traviata. 

 

In October 2012 Bogdan participated in IV Youth Musical Academy of CIS countries organised by Yury Bashmet in Lviv, Ukraine where he attended master classes given by Professor Svetlana Nesterenko. 

From 2012 to 2013 Bogdan was a soloist in the Song and Dance ensemble of the Ukrainian Military Forces. 

 

Since September 2013 Bogdan has been a member of the Young Artists Program of the Bolshoi Theatre. In October 2013 he debuted in Be in the Mood for Opera, a small performance at the Bolshoi, as the Tenor. In December 2013 he took part in the new production of Don Carlo, singing the role of Royal Herald. He also performed the part of Mozart in a concert performance of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Mozart and Salieri at the Beethoven hall. In February 2014 he took part in the new production of The Tsar’s Bride as Lykov.

 

In 2014/15 season he sang the part of Raimond in the concert performance of The Maid of Orleans (conductor Tugan Sokhiev) and took part in the new production of The Story of Kai and Gerda as Kai. 

 

He took part in the Bolshoi Theatre tours to Austria and USA, performing the part of Lykov in concert performances of The Tsar’s Bride.

Awards


In 2002 he took part in the “Ukrainian Bel Canto” competition in Donetsk and won the Grand Prix.

In 2010 he was awarded the 1st prize at the IV Frederic Chopin International Competition in St. Petersburg, Russia.

In 2013 he won the Grand Prix at the VI Anatoly Solovyanenko International Competition (Donetsk, Ukraine). 

In 2015 he was awarded the lst prize and audience sympathy prize at the Paris Opera Competition.

November, 6 "Eugene Onegin" opera by Pyotr Tchaikovsky staged by Dmitry Chernyakov has been performed on the New stage with new cast. Andrei Jilihovschi debuted in title role. Asmik Grigorian performed at The Bolshoi for the first time as Tatyana. Bogdan Volkov made his debute as Lensky and Yulia Mazurova - as Olga.
