Schedule for Evening of one-act ballets: "Front Curtain". "The Naiad and the Fisherman. Suite". 2022

"Front Curtain"

Composer: Ottorino Respighi

Choreographer: laureate of the Golden Mask award Vyacheslav Samodurov

Assistant choreographer: Tatiana Luan-Binh

The idea of scenography: Vyacheslav Samodurov, Anthony McElwain

Costume Designer: Elena Zaitseva

Lighting Designer: Nina Indrikson

Vyacheslav Samodurov - is rapidly gaining the sympathies of the ballet world by the unordinary nature of his choreographic thinking, and has already gained fame thanks to several successful works created specifically for the Yekaterinburg Theater (three Golden Masks -2014 for Variations of Salieri and one for Santus Arcticus). His new ballet "Curtain" is created for the music of Ottorino Respighi. "This composer, with whom I feel united, is rarely performed in Russia," explains the choreographer in his musical preferences, continuing to develop the musical taste of the audience. As for the idea of the play - he as always prefers to keep it a secret.

For Vyacheslav Samodurov - Paul Lightfoot continues to be an idol of youth, and his work - a unique phenomenon in the world of dance:

"We are the first ballet troupe in Russia, which had a happy opportunity to try on Lightfoot's choreography and introduce the audience to it. Paul is not just talented, but also extremely charismatic, working with him is a huge pleasure and unique experience. His work is amazingly modern - witty and dramatic, filled with passion and energy. Working in the Netherlands National Ballet, I was at the premiere at NDT, I saw many of Paul's works, and I always wanted to dance his choreography. Unfortunately, I did not have this opportunity, so now I am envious of my dancers in the hall. It's incredibly difficult to dance: an uneasy language and dynamic choreography are designed for young dancers who have energy and a desire to express themselves through dance. It's hard to say what the Lightfoot style is. Perhaps, Sam Lightfoot - this is the style. Most of his ballets are devoid of narrative, but there is always the feeling that you are reading a book or watching a movie. In Paul's works, there is always a lot of content - and this is exactly what I especially appreciate in ballets. Real choreographers communicate with the public at a completely different level - telling not a story, but an exciting emotional story. That's why they manage to say something that can not be conveyed in words. " Both ballets are performed under the phonogram. The sponsor of the project is the Eurasia Ballet Foundation for the Support of Choreographic Art.

"The Naiad and the Fisherman. Suite"

Composer: Cesare Pugni

Choreography: Alexander Shiryaev

Choreographer: Yuri Burlaka

Scenography: Andrey Voitenko

Costume Designer: Tatyana Noginova

"The Naiad and the Fisherman. Suite"- selected fragments of the ballet to the music of Caesar Puni. The ballet was first staged by choreographer Jules Perrot in London and then moved to St. Petersburg. There, in 1892, he resumed Marius Petipa, and in 1903 returned to the scene, Alexander Shiryaev, completely replacing the choreographic text. The version of Shiryaev will be presented in Moscow by the choreographer Yury Burlaka - a world-renowned expert in music and choreography of the nineteenth-century Russian ballet theatre.

"The Naiad and the Fisherman" can be called the younger sister of "La Sylphide" and "Giselle": all these ballets belong to the era of romanticism and hold the main romantic idea - a clash of the real and fantastic. The plot is simple: the sea maiden Nayada falls in love with the fisherman Matteo, who has a bride. The audience will see three big scenes from the ballet: Naiada's appearance and her duet with Matteo, a village festival, Naiad's dance with her shadow. The set designer Andrey Voitenko and costume designer Tatyana Noginova work on the design of the suite: the Petersburg masters are familiar to the viewer of the theatre according to the classical versions of Swan Lake and Giselle.
