The Moscow State Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre are happy to announce the upcoming premiere of Jacques Offenbach's comic opera "Robinson Crusoe". The premiere will be held on March 4th on the Main stage. It will be the first Russian performance of this musical blockbuster of the late XIX century. The libretto is based on Daniel Defoe's famous novel that was loosely interpreted by playwrights Eugene Cormon and Hector-Jonathan Cremier. The Russian text for Alexander Titel's production was written by Alexei Ivashchenko. The scenographer and costume designer of the production is Vladimir Arefiev. The stage director Alexander Titel shares his view on the performance: "This is the story of the "prodigal sons" who discover the world every now and again both for themselves and for us. It is them, the "prodigal children" who fly into space, develop science and create art. Offenbach's sense of adventurousness, curiosity, and pure joy is so great fit in his musical ensembles and that is exactly what we want to share with our audience". The play was first staged in Paris on November 23, 1867. Less than a year later it was staged in Vienna and Brussels and finally found its way to the USA. In XX century the renewed interest in this comic opera was brought by plays in London and Paris and by the record produced by Opera Rara label in 1981. The main part will be played by Dmitry Nikanorov and Kirill Zolochevsky. Mezzo-sopranos Anna Zagorodnyaya and Ekaterina Lukash will act as Friday, sopranos Lilia Gaisina and Daria Terekhova will play the part of Edwige and Maria Makeeva and Natalia Petrozhitskaya will perform as Suzanne. The cast also includes the leading artists of the Theatre Stanislav Li (Toby) and Roman Ulybin (Sir William Crusoe).
