Andrei Uvarov (Dancer)

Biography

Born in Moscow. In 1989, having completed his studies at the Moscow College of Choreography (today the Moscow Academy of Choreography; Alexander Bondarenko's class), he joined the Bolshoi Theatre Company. In 1995, he graduated from the performers' faculty of the Institute of Choreography (today Institute and College have been amalgamated into the Moscow State Academy of Choreography).
He rehearsed under Nikolai Simachyov, Boris Akimov and Galina Ulanova.
At the present time, his teacher-repetiteur is Nikolai Fadeyechev.

He performed Alexei Ratmansky's ballets, Charms of Mannerism (set to music by Richard Strauss) and Leah (set to music by Leonard Bernstein; first version).

In 2003, he partnered Marianela Nunez in Don Quixote Grand Pas in the concert of the Bolshoi Ballet and Royal Ballet soloists at the Bolshoi Theatre.

In 1995, Andrei Uvarov and Nadezhda Gracheva danced the main roles in Swan Lake with Belgrade National Theatre in Belgrade, Serbia.

Awards

In 1993, for his interpretation of the part of Romeo in Romeo and Juliet in Yuri Grigorovich production, he was awarded the Benois de la danse International Dance Association prize.
In 1995, she won 1st prize at International Ballet Competition in Osaka (Japan).
In 1996, he was awarded the title of Merited Artist of the Russian Federation.
In 2001, he was awarded the title of People's Artist of the Russian Federation.
In 2003, Ballet magazine awarded him its Soul of Dance prize (in the Star of Dance nomination).
