Dimitri Pittas (Tenor)

Biography

Dimitri Pittas has appeared on leading opera stages throughout North America and Europe, including debuts with the Bavarian State Opera, the Vienna State Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden and the Canadian Opera Company. He is a graduate of the Metropolitan Opera’s Lindemann Young Artist Development Program and has been heard on the Met stage as Rodolfo in La bohème, Macduff in Macbeth, Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore and Tamino in Die Zauberflöte. His repertoire includes performances as Alfredo in La traviata, Tebaldo in I Capuletti e i Montecchi, Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor and the Duke of Mantua in Rigoletto

In the 2012/13 season, Mr. Pittas begins with Oper Frankfurt as Rodolfo, before his return to Houston Grand Opera and his house debut with Lyric Opera of Chicago in the same role. On the concert stage he makes his debuts with Cincinnati Symphony in Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 and Verdi’s Requiem with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. Further performances include Nemorino with the Bavarian State Opera, and his role debut in the title role of Don Carlo at the Théâtre du Capitole in Toulouse, France. 

In the previous season, Mr. Pittas made his debut with the Canadian Opera Company as the Duke in a production by Christopher Alden and returned to the Metropolitan Opera as Macduff and as Rodolfo in the famed Zeffirelli production of La bohème. He was presented at Carnegie Hall at the annual recital of the Marilyn Horne Foundation. In the summer he returned to the Bavarian State Opera as Tebaldo in Bellini’s I Capuleti e i Montecchifollowing performances of Verdi’s Requiem with The Cleveland Orchestra. In the previous season, he made his debut for Royal Opera House Covent Garden in a new production of Macbeth, was heard as Edgardo with Houston Grand Opera and debuted as Tebaldo with the Bavarian State Opera. 

The 2009–2010 season brought several important debuts for Mr. Pittas. He began the season singing Alfredo Germont in La traviata with Deutsche Oper Berlin and reprised the role for his debut with Seattle Opera. He made his debut at the Vienna State Opera as Macduff in a new production of Verdi’s Macbeth. He debuted in Frankfurt as Edgardo in Lucia di Lammermoor and made his debut at Dresden’s Semperoper as Rodolfo in La bohème. He also joined Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra for performances of Verdi’s Requiem. 

Mr. Pittas has a close association with the Santa Fe Opera, having been an apprentice artist with the company. On the Santa Fe stage he made his debut as Achille in Offenbach’s La belle Hélène, and has since been heard as Narraboth in Salome, Rodolfo and, most recently, as Nemorino. He made his debut with the Bavarian State Opera as Macduff in a new production conducted by Nicola Luisotti and debuted as Rodolfo with Oper Leipzig. In France he has been heard as the Duke for Opéra National de Bordeaux and Opéra de Lille, and in the title role of Faust in Bordeaux. Other performances include Alfredo for Opéra de Montreal, Opera Theatre of St. Louis, and Opera Theatre Highland Park, and as Nemorino with Welsh National Opera for his UK debut. 

On the concert stage, Mr. Pittas has been heard in performances of Verdi’s Requiem with the Pittsburgh Symphony under Manfred Honeck and with Robert Spano and the Atlanta Symphony. He has been presented in recital by the Marilyn Horne Foundation at Carnegie Hall and at the St. Louis Art Museum. Other concert performances include “Stars of Lyric Opera” at Millenium Park, a gala concert in Tokyo, a gala concert for the Atlanta Opera, and a feature concert for Arts in Southold Town.
