Kari Heiskanen (Stage Director)
Began his acting, directing and teaching work while still studying in the Helsinki Theatre Academy (Finland) in the late1970s. He wrote plays and scripts for television and theatre, and in the late 1980s he “returned” to his alma mater as a drama teacher.
In 1979 the young actor joined the Ryhmäteatteri Company, and since 1988 he has directed productions for the Helsinki Municipal Theatre, the Theatre Academy and television.
His main drama productions are Castrates in Ryhmäteatteri, Bay or Die (a large-scale performance in an old factory with the Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, dancers, actors, cars and horses); Yellow Locomotive, White Icon, All is Despair and Cabaret in the Helsinki Municipal Theatre. Main works of Kari as a drama actor were Ivan Karamazov in Dostoevsky’s Brothers Karamazov, Lady Bracknell in Wilde’s An Ideal Husband, Pasi Harvala in Salama’s Finland and some others.
Kari Heiskanen is also well known in his home country as an actor of feature films and TV series; parts in Ambush, House Falling Apart, Atonement, Above the Law are under his belt. He has participated in a number of Finnish TV shows, such as Taboo, Extraordinary Stories, Friends of Dirty Fight, which are based on his scripts.
