Moscow Chamber Orchestra the Musica Viva (Orchestra)

The Chamber Orchestra “Musica Viva” was founded in Vladimir in 1978 by a violinist and a conductor Victor Kornachev. In 1988 cellist, painist and conductor Alexander Rudin took over the leading position.

A wide repertoire range—from West-European and Russian music of the XVII—XVIII centuries till pieces composed at the end of the XX century—and the original performance manner allow to characterize the Orchestra as an ensemble of soloists. It is this feature that determines the Orchestra composition—a permanent string orchestra and the necessary additional instruments performers who are invited—and genre “omnivorousity”—from trios, quartets till “Passions” of J.SBach, “Requiem” of Mozart, symphonies of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven.

The Orchestra was the first in Russia to perform some compositions of R.Schumann, J.Ch.Bach, C.P.E.Bach, A.Salieri; J.-M.Kraus, I.Pleyel, it revived a lot of compositions of Russian composers A.Gretchaninov, N., A. and I. Tcherepnins, other.

Famous musicians such as V.Tretjakov, Yu.Bashmet, D.Sitkovetsky, N.Gutman, Ch.Hogwood, F.Hirschorn, A.Adorjan, H.Ch.Wille, A.Lubimov, I.Oistrakh, V.Pikaizen, V.Krainev, N.Petrov, E.Virsaladze, S.Stadler and many others play with the Orchestra.

Since 1989 A.Rudin and “Musica Viva” conduct a yearly summer International Chamber Music Festival “Music Assamblies”. “Musica Viva” has been participating in a lot of international festivals such as Kammermusicpodium (Germany), “Oleg Kagan—Musicfest” (Germany), Festival “Pablo Casals” (France), Chamber Music Festival in Cannes (France), “II Delfino” (Italy), Bemud (Yugoslaviya), Ohridsko Summer (Macedonia).

Near 20 CDs have been recorded at the “The Russian Season” (Moscow-Paris), Olympia (London), Tudor (Switzerland).

Since 1989 A.Rudin and “Musica Viva” conduct a yearly summer International Chamber Music Festival “Music Assemblies”.

In 1999 there was not a festival. And now, in 2000, the Festival took place in Tretyakov Gallery. See the program of Festival.

The “Musical Assemblies” Festival first started in Vladimir the town with which the “Musica Viva” Academic Chamber orchestra the Initiator and the organizer of the “Assemblies”—has been bound up for many years. Since 1989 it has been held in Moscow. An eminent cellist, pianist and the Chief conductor of the “Musica Viva” orchestra Alexander Rudin is the Artistic Director of the Festival. Marina Butir has been its continuous Executive Director.

The concerts took place In Great and Small Halls of Moscow Conservatory, as well as In the halls of palaces and museums, traditionally gathering musicians of different countries. The names of many famous Russian and foreign musicians are on the posters of the Festival, such as: N.Gutman, A.Lyubimov, S.Stadler, VKraynev, MFedotov. A.Vinnitski, A.Adorlan (Germany), V.Manz (Germany), KLBogino, K V.Pek, M.Nordman, M.Lethiec (France), M.Quarta (Italy), R.Dias (Chile), T.Tomter (Norway), F.Hirschhom (who passed away prematurely). One can remember wonderful performances of the Russian pianists V.Merzhanov, V.Skanavi, V.Glnzburg, S.Glavatsklh as well as a piano duet LYe—R.P.Wille (Taiwan), exotic instruments players Y.Herkenhoff (a Pan flute), Van (Er-hy—Chinese authentic violin).

In 1998 the 10th Festival took place. At the concerts of that Festival A.Rudin, “Musica Viva” and famous conductor ChHogwood, A.Lubimov (piano), S.Stadler (violin), A.Adorian (fluet), H.Weinmeister (violin) took part.
