Dmitry Vargin (Baritone)

Dmitry Vargin was born in 1978 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, where his interest in singing was first awakened as a student of Choral Direction in high school.
Since 2001 he has been the pupil of Prof. William Workman at the State Academy of Music and Theatre in Hamburg, Germany. During this period he has also benefitted from occasional master classes given by such important artists as Kurt Moll and Franz Grundheber.

Mr. Vargin has appeared in numerous productions within and without the Academy, in such roles as Junius (The Rape of Lucretia by B.Britten), Peter (Haensel und Gretel by E.Humperdink), Marcello (La Boheme by G.Puccini), and Pappacoda (Eine Nacht in Venedig by J.Strauss).
In June of 2005, with the role of Demetrius in Britten’s A Midsummernight’s Dream, he completed the requirements for his Opera Diploma cum Laude.

During his last year at the Academy he appeared as guest of the Deutsche Oper am Rhein in Dusseldorf in the role of Silvio in Leoncavallo's I Pagliacci.This highly successful debut led to his being engaged, beginning with the 2005/11 Season, as a resident baritone soloist with the company. He was also appear at the Erfurt Opera in a production of Mozart's Die Zauberfloete (Papageno); in Wiesbaden as Valentin Faust; in Aachen as Marcello La Boheme and at the Hamburg State Opera as Tusenbach in Tri Sestri by Peter Eotvos.

He has sung in repertoire performances in Deutsche Oper am Rhein following parts: Marcello (La Boheme), Papageno (Die Zauberfloete), Guglielmo (Cosi fan tutte), Demetrius (A Midsummernight’s Dream), Onegin (Eugene Onegin).

The parts he has sung in new productions have been with producers such as Philip Himmelmann (Guilio Cesare, Achilla), Michael Simon (Faust, Valentin), Christof Nel (Pelleas et Melisande, Pelleas) Andras Fricsay Kali Son (L’elisir d’amore, Belcore).

In 2010 he made his Bolshoi Theatre debut as Papageno (Die Zauberfloete).
