Andrejs Zagars (Director) Andrejs Zagars studied drama and film acting and graduated from the Latvian Academy of Music, Theatre Department in 1982. Worked at the Latvian Daile Theatre (1982-1993) performing in plays by Latvian and foreign authors. Participated in many Latvian and foreign movies. Since 1996 he is General Director of the Latvian National Opera.
He made his debut in opera directing with Wagner‘s opera Der fliegende Hollander (Dalhalla, 2002; Latvian National Opera, 2003). In 2003 he staged Rubinstein‘s opera The Demon, in 2005 - Tchaikovsky‘s opera The Queen of Spades, in 2006 - Shostakovich`s opera Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, and in 2007 - Verdi’s La Traviata at the Latvian National Opera, as well as Verdi‘s Nabucco at Novaya Opera in Moscow (2006).
Received the Three Stars Medal of the Latvian Republic (2002) and the medal by the French Government - Médaille du Commandeur de la Legion d‘honneur (2001).
