Artyom Dervoed (Guitarist)

Being an outstanding musician as long as one of the most influential and famous Russian classical guitarists, Artyom Dervoed has filled many great concert halls all over the world with the miraculous sounds of his guitar: Berliner Philharmonic, Cologne Philharmonic & Tonhalle Dusseldorf (Germany), Carnegie Hall & Jordan Hall (USA), Bunka Kaikan (Japan), Grand hall of Moscow Conservatory, Tchaikovsky Concert Hall & Svetlanov’s Hall (Russia) – just to name a few. French press rightly called him «Tsar of the guitar»(«Universe Guitare» 2005, #1) while some established Maestros refer to him as the «artist of the highest caliber» (Norbert Kraft, Canada). Artyom’s performances recordings are being widely broadcasted on both TV&radio in numerous countries of the world.

 

Artyom was born in 1981 in Rostov-on-Don (Southern Russia). His first teachers were Sergey Annikov, Elena Svetozarova and Leonid Reznik. Later on the training was continued at a number of worldwide notable schools: Schnittke Music College and Gnesins’ Russian Academy of Music at the professor’s Nikolay Komolyatov’s class; Chigiana Musical Academy (Italy) with Oscar Ghiglia and Koblenz Guitar Academy (Germany) - with Aniello Desiderio. During his study years Artyom received a number of honorary scholarships from Moscow authority, International Charity Foundation of Vladimir Spivakov and «Russian Performing Art» foundation.

 

Artyom Dervoed was awarded the «Golden Guitar» prize at the International Guitar Convention in Alessandria (Italy) for the Best Up-and-Coming Guitarist and has won a total of 37 awards in a series of important international competitions in Russia, France, Belgium, Italy, Germany, Austria, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Japan, Israel, Singapore, Taiwan and USA:

  • 1996, Belgorod (Russia), All-Russian competition — 1st prize; 
  • 1999, Carpentras (France), International competition dedicated to Leo Brouwer — 1st prize;

  • 2004, Ile de Re (France), International competition — 1st prize; 
  • 2006, Alessandria (Italy), «Michele Pittaluga» 39th International competition  — 1st prize; 
  • 2006, Singapore, International competition — 1st prize; 
  • 2009, Toledo (Spain), «H.R.H. Princess Cristina» 18th International guitar competition  – 1st prize. 
  • 2010, Buffalo (NY, USA), JoAnn Falletta International Guitar Concerto Competition – 1st prize. 
  • 2010, Boston (MA, USA), Boston GuitarFest International competition – 1st prize. 
  • 2010, Iserlohn (Germany), International guitar competition – 1st prize.
  • 2011, Netanya (Israel), International guitar competition – 1st prize.
  • 2012, Columbia (SC, USA), Southern Guitar Festival & Competition – 1st prize.
  • 2012, Taipei (Taiwan), Taiwan International guitar competition - 1st prize.
  • 2012, Pisa (Italy), «Stefano Strata – Città di Pisa» International competition  - 1st prize.
  • 2013, Moscow (Russia), Alexander Frauchi International competition - 1st prize. 

    

    Artyom was the first Russian to win the prestigious Michele Pittaluga Guitar Competition in Alessandria (Italy) throughout the 40 years of its history. He also earned one of the highest awards possible at the motherland of guitar, Spain, at «Her Royal Highness Princess Cristina» competition in Toledo 2009. Yet again, Artyom became the first Russian to win this prize. 

 

His debut CD – the album of Russian composers’ music - was recorded in 2007 in Canada on the world's leading classical music label «Naxos». Release took place in June 2008 and immediately got to the Naxos’ top 10 chamber music bestsellers. 

«If your current budget runs out to just a single item from the Naxos Laureate Series, make this the one.» – wrote Paul Fowles from the well-known English magazine «Classical Guitar».

 

The second CD was recorded two years later, in 2009. Madrid and music of Leo Brouwer, this time – a dedication to the 70th anniversary of the great Maestro.

 

Year 2015 brought the 3rd of Artyom’s CDs to life – «Ghosts & Shadows», the album of Spanish composers’ music – having this one recorded on legendary Russian label «Melodiya». 

 

As a professional of a wide range Artyom has it all on his list: solo recitals & chamber music performances, as long as collaborations with many orchestras in Russia and all over the world: Russian National Orchestra (Russia), Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra (NY,USA), Roma Philharmonic Orchestra (Italy), The Vivaldi Philharmonic Orchestra (Italy), Rhine Philharmonic State Orchestra and The Cologne New Philharmonic Orchestra (Germany), Beer-Sheva Sinfonietta Orchestra (Israel), «New Russia» State Symphony Orchestra, «Russian Philharmonic» Moscow City Symphony Orchestra; Ural, Volgograd, Saratov, Irkutsk, and Togliatti Philharmonic Symphony Orchestras; State Symphony Orchestra of the Republic of Tatarstan; State Symphony Orchestra of the Udmurt Republic; Tambov Symphony Orchestra;  Governor Orchestra of Folk Instruments; Osipov National Academic Folk Instruments Orchestra; Academic orchestra of Russian Folk Instruments of Russian TV-Radio Company; "Amadeus", "Arco", “Vivaldi” Chamber orchestras; State Academic Chamber Orchestra of Russia; Chamber State Orchestra of The Academic Small Theatre Of Russia; «La Primavera» Kazan State Chamber Orchestra (Tatarstan Republic), «Sinfonietta Köln», «Amadeus Kammerorchester Dortmund», «Ensemble del Arte» (Germany) and many others.

 

 It was May 2012 when Artyom performed double concerto by M.Castelnuovo-Tedesco in duo with the outstanding guitarist - Aniello Desiderio (Italy). 

And September 2014 brought another breakthrough of Artyom debuting at the Russian National Orchestra Grand Festival in Moscow with a world premier of Paganini-Goss guitar concerto conducted by the great Maestro Mikhail Pletnev.  

 

Artyom’s repertoire consists of the widest range: from the Renaissance to the pieces written for him by the contemporaries. There are also more than 25 concertos for guitar and orchestra on the very list.

    

Besides his brilliant career as a classical guitarist, Artyom devotes time to performing other styles of music, playing both classical and electric guitar.

 

Since 2005 Artyom teaches classical guitar at the Moscow State University of Culture & Arts, while teaching career at one of the most prestigious institutions of Russia - the Gnesins’ Russian Academy of Music – started out in 2011.
