Nadja Michael (Soprano)

She has sung under the most renowned conductors of our time in some of the most important opera houses, including the Arena di Verona, Glyndebourne and the Salzburg Festival. She has worked with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra several times, for example as Brangдne in Wagner’s “Tristan und Isolde” under the musical direction of Daniel Barenboim and as Didon in Berlioz’ “Les Troyens” under Zubin Mehta.
Since her soprano debut, the singer has remarkably quickly established herself in her new soprano role at the greatest opera houses with parts like Marie/Marietta, Tosca, Fidelio, Santuzza, Lady Macbeth and Salome. Her Salome was a sensational success in Milan’s Scala in February 2007 and was followed by an equally acclaimed Fidelio at the Staatsoper in Vienna. After successful productions such as Salome at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, she debuted as Medee by Cherubini at La Monnaie in Brussels.

Until 2012, she is scheduled to play the following roles, each of them in new productions: “Salome” by Strauss in San Francisco, Iphigйnie in “Iphigйnie en Tauride” by Gluck at La Monnaie in Brussels, Salome in "Salome" by Strauss at the Teatro Communale di Bologna, Medea in "Medea in Corinth“ by Giovanni Simone Mayr at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, Lady Macbeth in “Macbeth” by Verdi in Chicago, Fidelio in "Fidelio" by Beethoven in Amsterdam, Venus/Elisabeth in "Tannhдuser" by Wagner at the Teatro Communale di Bologna, Marie in "Wozzeck“ by Alban Berg at the Staatsoper Berlin under the musical direction of Daniel Barenboim, Lady Macbeth in “Macbeth” by Verdi at the Metropolitan Opera New York and "Medee“ von Cherubini am Tйвtre des Champs Йlysйes Paris.

Later on, the singer will debut as Aida and as Norma in the operas of the same name.

In 2005 Nadja Michael received the Prix d’Amis as the best female singer of the 2004/05 season for her role as Marie/Marietta in Amsterdam.

The singer also was presented with the “Rose of the Week” by the Mьnchner Tageszeitung, a munich daily newspaper, in November 2005 for outstanding cultural achievement for her performance in “Das Lied von der Erde” under Zubin Mehta.

In January 2008, Nadja Michael was awarded the Axel Springer publishing house’s B.Z. cultural prize for opera.

Nadja Michael was presented with the “Rose of the Week” by the Mьnchner Tageszeitung, a munich daily newspaper, in October 2008 for outstanding cultural achievement for her performance in MACBETH/Verdi at the Bavarian State Opera.
