Mikhail Granovsky (Conductor)

Mikhail Granovsky was born in Moscow in a family of the hereditary professional musicians.

In 1979-1989, he studied at the Moscow Sveshnikov Choir School and since 1979 he sang in the School‘s Boys‘ Choir performing on different concert stages.

In 1989-1994, Mikhail Granovsky became a student of the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory, the choir-conductor department (the class of professor B. Tevlin).

In 1991, he took part in the piano master-class of professor V.Margulis in Freiburg (Germany). Later on, he performed as an accompanist to singers and soloists.

In 1990s, he performed as a conductor at master-classes of professor H.Rilling (Germany) in Moscow Conservatory and twice - in the Bachacademie in Stuttgart (Germany), where he conducted both the orchestra and the choir.

In 1994-1998, Mikhail Granovsky became a student of opera- and symphony conductors‘ department of Moscow Conservatory (the class of professor G.Rozhdestvensky). Also, these years he conducted the orchestra of the Conservatory Opera Studio.

In February 2001, Mikhail Granovsky filled a post of a conductor-trainee of the Bolshoi Theatre by open competition, and in September, 2002, he became an assistant-conductor of the Bolshoi Theatre Orchestra. He took part in the production of Stravinsky‘s opera “The Rake‘s Progress” and conducted at the performances.

The orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre was also conducted by him at the opera performances “The Snow Maiden”, “Mozart and Salieri”, “Iolanthe”, at the ballet performances “La Fille du Pharaon”, “Cipollino”, “Chopiniana”, “Fantasy on a theme by Kasanova”, “Anyuta”, also at the ballet performances of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy “Magic Flute” and “The Nutcraker”.

Mikhail Granovsky conducted academic symphony orchestras of the cities of Ulyanovsk, Tomsk and Saratov, the Moscow symphony orchestra “Russian Philarmonic”, the Moscow Chamber Orchestras “The Seasons” and “Amadeus”, “Hellas-Orchestra of Patras” (Greece) and Chamber Orchestra of the Bolshoi Theatre.

In December 2005 he was a conductor and co-producer of the opera “The Snow Maiden” in the State Theatre of Opera and Ballet of Bashkiria.

In 2006/07 he cooperated with the “Studio for New Music” Ensemble. They performed a number of the 20th century compositions including A. Schonberg’s opera “Expectation” (the chamber version by F. Karaev, premiere in Russia, soloist E. Kichigina)

In 2007 he was invited by the Yekaterinburg Russian State Academic Theater to participate in the Bangkok’s 9th International Festival of Dance and Music. He conducted P. Tchaikovsky’s opera “Eugene Onegin”, G. Verdi’s opera “La Traviata”, N. Rimsky-Korsakov’s symphonic suite “Scheherazade”, L. van Beethoven’s 9th Symphony.
