Born in Moscow in a family of the Bolshoi Ballet dancers. In 1978 was after graduation from the Moscow Choreographic College (now the Moscow State Choreographic Academy) he joined the Ballet Company of the Bolshoi Theater. In 2001 he was awarded the title "Honored Artist of the Russian Federation."
