"Ivan the Terrible" - one of the vertices of Sergei Prokofiev and his latest collaboration with outstanding director Sergei Eisenstein. The creation of this music began in 1942. Perennial commonwealth composer and filmmaker proved extremely fruitful. Score was born in the wake of the huge patriotic enthusiasm that had plagued the entire country. Film music by Prokofiev went far beyond mere accompanying. Oratorio "Ivan the Terrible" is a work for narrator, chorus and orchestra, but the composer of such works are not created. Prokofiev left is film music - a set of fragments that are not merged into one. Besides the episodes, Prokofiev, alternate arrangements in the film and quotes a foreign music (primarily liturgical). Only in 1961, after the death of Prokofiev, Abram Stasevich created oratorio "Ivan the Terrible." Stasevich added work party reader, which is a kind of dramaturgical core, unifying set of diverse musical episodes oratorio. The first performance was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Prokofiev.
