Alexey Ogrinchuk (Oboe)

One of the leading Russian musicians of the young generation Alexey Ogrinchuk was born in 1978 in Moscow. He started to train in playing oboe when he was nine years old. He graduated from the Gnessin Music School in Moscow (class of professor Ivan Pushechnikov). When he was around 13-14 years old he started to perform as a soloist in Russia, West Europe and Japan. His playing was heard by the Pope John Paul II, the Patriarch of Moscow and Russia Alexiy II, the Queen of Great Britain Elizabeth II and Prince Michael of Kent, as well as the Queen of Spain Sophia. In 1995 he entered the National Conservatory of Music and Dance in Paris (CNSMDP) that he graduated from exceptionally in 1999, receiving First prizes for oboe and chamber ensemble (his professors are Maurice Bourgue, Jacques Tys and Jean-Louis Capezzali). In 2002 he finished the post-graduate studentship at CNSMDP.

Being already a laureate of one national and several European international contests, in his 19 years he becomes the winner and the owner of all special prizes at the most prestigious Geneva International Music Competition. A year later he won the European Prize “Juventus”.

When he was 20, Alexey Ogrinchuk was accepted as a solo oboist in the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Valery Gergiev. At the same time his career as a soloist and chamber musician begins, which he combines quite successfully with his work in the orchestra. As a soloist and chamber ensemble player he performs in the best venues of Europe, as well as Japan, America and Israel.

His list of collaborators includes Gidon Kremer, Vladimir Spivakov, Maurice Bourgue, Radu Lupu, Ivan Fischer, Christophe Coin, Kent Nagano, Leo Marquis, Fabio Luisi, Sergio Azzolini, Alexey Goribol, Alexander Rudin, Geanandria Noseda, Arie van Beek, Albert Kaiser and also Kocian Quartet and quartet Sine Nomine.

Among orchestras that he performed with as a soloist are the orchestras of Bolshoi and Mariinskiy Theaters, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande (Geneve), Budapest Festival Orchestra, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, “Collegium Musicum” (Basel), “Moscow Virtuosi”, “KREMERata Baltica”, Orchestre d’Auverghe (Clermon-Ferran), as well as the Stuttgart and Paris chamber orchestras.

He constantly performs at many of greatest international music contests. Since 2001 he is a staff consultant of the oboe class at the London Royal Academy. Since 2003 he holds the same position at the Conservatory of Rotterdam.

In 2002 Alexey Ogrinchuk won the main national Prize of France in the field of classical music “Victoires de la musique” as a nominee of “the best foreign musician of the year” category and he also won the audience’s prize.

He has recordings on Radio of Moscow, Radio France, SWR Stuttgart, Suisse Romande, Radio Amsterdam and on TV in different countries (including channels like NHK and Mezzo).

Among his recordings on CD is the world premiere of a sow part of Beethoven’s oboe concerto discovered in 2001 (Raptus Classics) and the works of Skalkottas (Bis Records). In 2003 he recorded an album on Harmonia Mundi dedicated to the works of Schumann.
