Alexander Kobrin (Piano soloist)

Born in Moscow in 1980, Alexander Kobrin began piano studies with Professor Tatiana Zelikman at the Gnessin Special Music School when he five. His debut took place at the age of eight, when he performed Bach‘s Concerto in F minor and, a year later, Beethoven‘s First Piano Concerto. Currently a student at the Moscow Conservatory in the class of Professor L. Naumov, Kobrin received a scholarship and became a "New Names" laureate of the Russian Fund for Culture. In 1993, he won the First Prize - the "Premio Mozart 93" - of the International Competition for Young Performers organized by Italian Television (RAI) in Paris. His first solo recital took place in the Moscow Conservatory‘s Rachmaninov Hall the same year. In 1994 he won the "International Stage of Talents" competition in Oslo (Norway), and in 1994-95, Kobrin performed recitals in both halls of the Conservatory, as well as in Russia, Italy, Austria, Finland, Argentina, and elsewhere. In 1998, Kobrin won First Prize in the Scottish International Piano Competition in Glasgow, and was a prizewinner at the H. Neuhaus Festival in Moscow. In 1999 he was the winner of the Busoni International Piano Competition in Bolzano (Italy) and was awarded the special prize in memory of A. Benedetti Michelangeli. In 2000, he was a prizewinner at the 14th International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. Kobrin‘s concerts have taken him to Italy, Great Britain, France, Austria, Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Japan, Iceland, Finland, Hungary, Israel, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, and Argentina. He has also performed under the baton of Yury Bashmet, with the Moscow Virtuosi under V.Spivakov, L‘Orchestre de la Suisse Romande under A.Lazarev, the Moscow Chamber Orchestra under K.Orbelian, and with the Virtuosi of Salzburg, among others. Alexander Kobrin has appeared on radio and telvision broadcasts in Russia, Iceland, France, Scotland, Italy, Austria, and Switzerland, and his discography includes several CDs.
