Yevgeny Volynsky (Conductor)

Russian conductor, a graduate of the departments of choral (1989) and symphony/opera conducting at the Novosibirsk Conservatory (1999). Early in his career, he worked with the music theatres of Novosibirsk, and has been a conductor with the Novosibirsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre since 1990. 

He has been the principal conductor of the Irkutsk Philharmonic for several years, and was appointed guest conductor of the Chelyabinsk Opera and Ballet Theatre. He has conducted performances of Giselle; Carmen; Prince Igor; Eugene Onegin, Iolanta, The Queen of Spades, The Sleeping Beauty and Swan Lake; Delibes's Coppelia; Donizetti's Rita and Lucia di Lammermoor; Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice; The Magic Flute, Don Giovanni and Le Nozze di Figaro, Boris Godunov and Khovanshchina; Tosca, La Boheme and Madame Butterfly; the ballet The Moor's Pavane to music by Purcell; Rimsky-Korsakov's Mozart and Salieri, Sadko, The Tsar's Bride and Sheherazade (balet set to this music); Il Barbiere di Siviglia; Stravinsky's Petrushka; and also Aida, La Traviata, Nabucco, Otello, Rigoletto.

With the Novosibirsk Opera, he has performed as a guest conductor in Spain (Barcelona, Seville), Germany (Berlin, Munich), Portugal (Lisbon), Italy (Rome, Cagliari), Egypt (Cairo), China (Shanghai), Japan, Thailand (Bangkok). In concert, he has presented the works of Beethoven, Brahms, Chopin, Haydn, Grieg, Liszt, Mahler, Mendelssohn, Ravel, Saint-Saens, Schubert, and Schumann. He has received many awards, and was recently nominated Russia's best opera conductor for preparing the music for Alfred Schnittke's opera "Life With an Idiot". He was a teacher as well, teaching conducting at the Novosibirsk Conservatory in 1996-2001.

At the Polish National Opera, he conducts The Queen of Spades, La Traviata and Shchedrin/Ratmansky's ballet Anna Karenina.

As of the 2008/2009 season, he is the principal conductor of the Teatr Wielki - Polish National Opera.
